Last Minute Mother's Day

I think most of us can agree we are having a hard time keeping track of what day it is, let alone prepare for upcoming holidays. Quarantine living certainly has my head, and hair, in a mess.

Mother’s Day is this Sunday. It feels harder to plan with current closures, social distancing in place, and family gatherings cancelled this year, but we can still make this a special day for all the Mama’s in our lives despite the important safety changes we’re all adapting to.

Here are some easy last minute ideas for anyone still in need. And feel free to share this list with your husband, you’re welcome.

Breakfast in bed. A simple go to classic, but I promise you every Mom would love to be lying in bed, look up and see a tray full of pancakes and mimosas coming her way.

Gift cards to her favorite places she can use once able to (supporting local businesses at the same time, win win). If you’re a local follower, here are my favorites:

  • Marisa’s Skin Care – Best go to for facials (they can even help you pick out some pampering products for now she will love).

  • The Right Touch – She will need a massage after this.

  • Kloud Nine – IG @kloudninehair_

  • Coffee Connection – Best ice coffee in town.

  • Pure Haven – products from IG @cleanlivingwithashlee

  • Briggs Nursery – They offer both Cafe or garden gift card’s, get her both. We miss roaming Brigg’s with their ice coffee in hand.

Flowers/Plants. Now is the perfect time to spruce up our yards. Some garden nursery’s are even doing call ahead pick up orders, they are making this easy for us! Check out Briggs if you are local.

Cook for her. You can deliver a homemade meal to your Mom, or have your hubby make you dinner of your choice. I recently saw a friend share that her husband surprised her by turning their garage into a romantic “restaurant” for the night, he had a complete set up and everything.  This would make me cry and probably have another baby okayyyyy let’s move along.

Books are a perfect idea for her. Most of us are at home, or if she leaves to go to into work, I’m going to guess she wants to do nothing but unwind once she’s home. There’s nothing better than a new book or two. Some ideas:

10/10 of the females in your life are having TJMaxx withdrawals right about now. Treat her to a new candle, she can pretend she’s roaming the isles of TJMaxx smelling it because this is actually what she misses terribly.

A new coffee or wine tumbler, my current favorite is from Corkcicle.

At home spa basket. When we can’t go to the spa, bring the spa to her. Here are some ideas to include-

  • Face and eye masks

  • Bathtub tray

  • Bath pillow

  • Jade roller

  • Body scrub

  • Exfoliating glove

  • Facial In A Bottle (my favorite)

  • Candles

  • Bottle of wine

Go for a family walk. It’s the simple non material things I swear.

If you spend Mother’s Day at a winery, bring the winery to her. Pick up a few bottles of her favorite, or set up a tasting with new wines to try. Get some cheese and crackers, a picnic blanket, and lay in your backyard imaging you’re sitting in the grass of her favorite winery she’s dreaming about. I hope my husband reads this one.

While we’re on the subject of wine, spice up her glassware with new wine glasses and decanter to add to her precious collection, linked here.

Treat her to dessert. I don’t need to say anything else here.

If you have little ones, get crafty. Have them make a Mother’s Day craft, even just scribble on paper we seriously love that just as much (and it’s the thought that counts). She won’t be getting one from their school this year and that makes her so sad. Give Pinterest a click for quick inspiration.

Tackle an at home or outdoor project for her.

Honestly, do the laundry and dishes. This. Is. What. We. Really. Want. Maybe even do it again on Monday.

Her day to day wardrobe probably consists of all lounge wear nowadays. Treat her to something new to add to her comfy wardrobe, check out my liketoknow.it page for some ideas.

Order take out from her favorite restaurant. Again win win, spoil Mom and support local businesses.

If you can’t spend the day with your Mom as you typically do, try to get creative. Send her an extra special homemade card, schedule a virtual Mother’s Day breakfast date, or if you’re able to do a social distance front yard visit that would even mean the world to her.

Mom’s are the most selfless people in our lives, always, always putting others before themselves. Most probably feel the same way right now, stretched thin trying her best to juggle it all plus so much more, while keeping a worry free smile on her face for her kids. She deserves a day dedicated to her and extra loving and appreciation. With times more stressful than usual right now, don’t feel like you have to break out your wallet and spend, a special day doesn’t have to be expensive or materialistic. Personally, a homemade card from my two year old, a mimosa, and a long walk together are all I need.

Here’s to all the amazing, strong, selfless, loving, caring, thoughtful, fighters, super Mom’s in your life. We love you and we thank you for everything!
