13 Ideas For a Fun Father's Day

June is typically a time for endless pool parties, cook outs, celebrating the end of the school year, early release Friday's at the office, summer camps, vacations, day trips, and yes, celebrating the Dad's in our lives. Although most of the above is cancelled, celebrating the men in our lives is not. If you know me, I just LOVE DADS. I'm thankful to have a supportive Dad and also watching my husband turn into a Dad has been so memorable.

With Father's Day in just a few days, if you're stuck with what to do, or how to celebrate, I've rounded up some easy last minute ideas that will sure bring a smile to the Dad in your life and make for a memorable day.

Ask any Dad, he will probably say, "I don't need anything!" -- but, the reality is YES YOU DO. The Dad you know probably works very hard making sacrifices for his family, and 110% deserves a day dedicated to him. Maybe it's a round of golf, or maybe it's a day with no hunny to do lists. Doing something together I find to be much more appreciated and meaningful than a physical gift. However, there is something about a homemade card and crafts from the kids/grand kids that will melt his manly heart whether he admits it or not, so make sure you do that!

13 Activity Ideas for Father's Day-

  1. Book him a tee time. If your golf course is already booked for this Sunday, plan one in a few weekends, something for him to look forward to, plus it most likely will be less crowded (yes hi covid, we know).

  2. Go to his favorite brewery. With public places now opening up, treat him to a few flights of his favorite local beer. If you're not ready to head out into town just yet, make your own beer tasting at home! This can be so clever and fun. Pick up a variety of craft beers, and create your own flight tastings, with a side of brewery like snacks of course. Waa-lahhh it's like you are actually at the brewery (okay sort of).

  3. If the outdoors is his thing, plan a hike, go fishing, kayak, or head out on your boat if you're lucky. Sorry hubs, I don't have a boat for you this year.

  4. Ice-cream. Who doesn't love a good ice-cream cone on a summer day? Dad definitely wants ice-cream, so treat him to your local ice-cream shop. For my local followers, Summer Scoops is our go to.

  5. Backyard cookout. This hands down is always our favorite. If you've been seeing your family and close friends and are comfortable with a small get together, as long as the sun is shining have a BBQ, play some yard games, and toast to the Dad's.

  6. Treat him to breakfast. Alright so I may have lied, this is also a favorite. In MA, restaurants have finally been able to open their doors to outdoor seating only. With hopes of nice weather, make a morning date reservation to his favorite breakfast spot, order up those pancakes and a bloody mary for him. Sorry mama, driving may be on you this day.

  7. Head to the beach. Depending on where you live, beaches are open and ready for distanced goers. This could be a relaxing idea, or not, depending on crowds. If you decide to soak up some sun at the beach, my fingers are crossed that it's not too crowded and you score a good parking spot.

  8. Family walk. Something so simple, that I'm sure we are all semi sick of, but switch up the scenery by heading to a park, or different town. Take a drive where you can walk along the water or trails. Biking more of your thing? Plan a scenic bike ride.

  9. Create your own camping. Have a tent? Have a backyard? Have a fire pit? Okay great -- create your own camping experience in the yard. Roast marshmallows, have drinks by the fire, camp out in your own yard. As for me, I would need an air mattress in order to sleep outside (just being honest), but I love this idea. Something I think he would adore as well.

  10. Mini golf. If this is an option in your state due to reopening phases, good old mini golf is always a hit. I think even more so this year as we've all been doing well, not so much over the past few months. Reread number 4 to add on to this fun day.

  11. Game Day. With sports out of the schedule right now, create your own day of fun with backyard wiffle ball, football, kickball, basketball, corn hole, horse shoe, giant jenga, volleyball, okay you get the idea. Something everyone can enjoy and burn off some energy. WAIT- older kids in the picture? Add in some competitive family beer pong or flip cup, #sundayfunday am I right?

  12. This one is daring, but if you're feeling brave and extra generous, take over his chores for the day. Yard work, washing the cars, whatever this may entail, roll up your sleeves and take over his share of chores. JUST FOR THE DAY. He can have them all back immediately. I hope my hubs and Dad don't see this one, you really don't want me mowing the lawn.

  13. Outdoor movie night. Put the chick flicks and Disney kid movies aside, and play Dad's favorite movie on a projector or TV in the backyard once the sun goes down. We've done this a few times, and use a projector with a king size white sheet against the house. Grab the lawn chairs and pop some popcorn. If you want to put a spin on this, up this to an at home drive in movie "theater" in the yard. Large backyard? Park your car in the back and create a comfy seating in either the truck bed or pop the trunk of your suv/van. Something Dad and the kids would find super fun.

I hope you're able to take one of these ideas and add your own spin to it. I can't wait to see how your day plays out. Father's Day is such a special day. Hug yours tightly, or raise a glass to yours in heaven and his beautiful memory. I am so, so thankful for mine, and so blessed Mila has such a loving Dad too.
